Sherlock and Larie - JL pt. 1

Mrs. Larie Grimes, Lieutenant Sherlock Grimes,
Posted on 202006.20
Larie kept Mardel’s hand in both of hers and kept her face hidden behind Mardel’s back.  She was trembling in fear. There were too many people around and it was all cold metal, nothing warm and green anywhere.

Mardel sighed and lead Larie into the bar and stopped by the bar.  She was looking for someone, but she kept an arm around Larie to help her feel a little better.  An Andorian male came over to Mardel and looked at Larie. He offered a hundred strips of gold pressed latinum for Larie.  The icy cold look Mardel gave him had him back peddling fast, holding up his hands before turning and running from the Starfleet Captain and the young GOW girl.  Then Mardel saw Sherlock and waved to him.

Sherlock saw Mardel wave at him and stood from his table and moved to her side.  He noticed the small girl hiding in Mardel’s shadow, keeping her face hidden against Mardel’s back and smiled.  “Mardel, I’m glad we could meet up here. Is this the girl you wanted me to meet and maybe help?” He asked. He had run into Mardel earlier and they had spoken about her shy sister who was afraid of her own shadow.  He had offered to help the girl by telling her his story, maybe it would give her a little courage.

Mardel smiled at Sherlock.  “Yes, this is Larie. Why don’t we go to a booth.  I think having her back exposed is making her a little nervous.”  Mardel shared a look with Sherlock as she walked into the back and took a booth.  She motioned to have Sherlock sit on the other side of Larie and put Larie in the center.

Sherlock smiled and did as Mardel asked and sat on the other side of Larie.  He looked at the tiny girl and realized she would only come up to his chest. She had long hair that she kept her face hidden behind and he ached to touch it, maybe braid it out of the way so he could see her face.  He could tell she had a nice body, well muscled but compact. Although her furs left little to the imagination, but he did see the dagger tucked into the waist of her fur skirt. He wondered how she got it through security.

Mardel ordered two juices for herself and for Larie.  She sighed when Larie didn’t even look at the glass. “So, Sherlock, how long are you on the station for?”

Larie watched the table top, she listened to what Mardel and this Sherlock person were saying, but didn’t know what to add to it.  She looked at her hands a moment and picked at a hangnail for a minute. Then stopped when she felt stillness around her. She then looked at the juice and lifted the glass for a tiny sip.  It was okay, but very different from anything back home.

Sherlock took a sip of his drink and looked at Mardel.  “I am here for about a week. The Excelsior has a short break and I was able to get some leave.”

Mardel looked at Larie.  “Larie, I want you to say hello to a friend of mine, Sherlock Grimes.”  She leaned down and whispered in Larie’s ear. “Be polite and look at him when you say hello.”  She prompted her little sister.

Larie looked up at Mardel, her eyes wide with fear, but she saw in Mardel’s face that she wasn’t going to let Larie off without being polite.  Larie glanced over at Sherlock. She saw something on the back of his left hand and wondered what it was. She let her eyes drift up, but stopped before looking into his face, she looked at the collar of his uniform.  “Hello, Sherlock.” She whispered very softly and then looked quickly back to her hands.

Sherlock was right about Larie, when she came out of her hair, she was very beautiful.  But the shyness in her eyes was almost painful to see. It was more than just uncertainty, it was also fear.  He felt her pull at his heart. He reached out and almost touched her hand, but didn’t. “It’s nice to meet you, Larie.”  He said softly. He wasn’t sure, but he thought she might have dimples when she smiled. He hoped he was right, he always liked dimples, now he just had to get her to smile for him.

Larie nodded and took another sip of the juice.  She wanted to go someplace that wasn’t so full of so many people.  Even though she kept her hands on the table, she could almost feel the eyes of others on her and it made her want to hide.  At least if anyone was trying to get to her, he would have to go through either Mardel or this Sherlock person or a table. She would be able to draw her dagger before anyone got too close to her.

Mardel shrugged at Sherlock.  “I’m sorry, Sherlock. Larie is very shy and isn’t used to those outside of Orion.  Even on Orion she’s pretty shy. I was hoping she might be a little more social though, for my sake.”  She gave a slight smile at the start Larie gave at that. She knew that Larie’s stubborn streak was about to come out, as long as Mardel played it carefully.
